Build your natural defences BEFORE cold & flu season, with this herbal immune tonic tea blend!

This recipe contains some of our favourite immune tonic herbs. It’s great tea to make regularly as the seasons change to build your immune system. It’s also great to make if you’re feeling run down, or take regularly if you’re someone who seems to get sick all the time, or if you have young kids in school and are constantly fighting off the latest bug.

Astragalus is a prized Chinese immune tonic that stimulates the body’s immune action against viruses, has a mild antibiotic action and increases the activity of white blood cells. These properties make it a relevant herb for recurring colds, debilitating viral infections and chronic illnesses such as glandular fever, chronic fatigue syndrome and Ross River and AIDS. Astragalus is traditionally used for chronically weak lungs and low energy levels.

Elecampane is a gently warming and tonic herb, it is especially effective in treating coughs, bronchitis and many other complaints of the chest as well as disorders of the digestive system. It also restores the lungs by healing damaged lung linings.

Licorice appears to enhance immunity by boosting levels of interferon, a key immune system chemical that fights off attacking viruses. It has demulcent mucilaginous properties that help coat the throat as well as the digestive tract, helping soothe sore throats and coughs as well as stomach ulcers. Licorice also supports the adrenals, liver and digestion. A wonderful friend to have, indeed!

Cat’s Claw is a powerful herb that comes from the Amazon, and is mostly taken today to boost immune function, as an all over tonic and preventative to stay healthy, for arthritis and inflammation, for bowel and colon problems, and as a complementary therapy for cancer.
